Simply Guitar is only partly free. According to its official FAQ you can create a free account for a selection of introductory lessons, but there is no free trial of the full library, and the paid plan is $9.99 a month on the subscribe page we read on 30 September 2026. Subscription fees are non-refundable, so decide before you pay.
What is free on Simply Guitar
The FAQ on simplyguitar.com says: “We do not currently offer a free trial, but we do provide free introductory lessons,” and that users can create a free account to access a selection of free lessons. In practice that means you can try the basics and see whether the teaching style suits you, without entering a card. What the free selection contains can change, so open the site and look before you assume it covers what you want to learn.
What the paid plan costs
On the subscribe page (read 30 September 2026) the Monthly Plan is listed at $9.99 a month, with an annual option marked “save 20%”. We did not read the annual price, so we do not quote it. The page lists unlimited access to 500+ lessons, live jam sessions and Q&A, progress tracking and community access. Prices differ by country and can change, so treat this as a snapshot, not a quote.

| Monthly price | $9.99 on the subscribe page we read |

| Can I cancel? | Yes, effective at the end of the current billing period |
How to cancel Simply Guitar
The official cancellation guide says to log in, open your account settings, choose “Manage Subscription” and press “Cancel Subscription”, then check your email for the confirmation. Access continues until the end of the period you already paid for. If you subscribed through Apple or Google instead of the website, cancel in that store’s subscription settings; the guide we read does not cover those routes. Because there are no refunds, cancel before the renewal date, not after.
Free alternatives, and a no-subscription option
If your real question is how to avoid paying every month, three routes exist. JustinGuitar’s core lessons are free, with no app that listens to you. Other paid apps are listed in our Yousician alternatives page, and our no-monthly-fee guide compares free, one-time and subscription options side by side. The third route is a one-time-payment video course:
One-time payment option: Jamorama
Affiliate link: we earn a commission if you buy through it, at no extra cost to you.
Jamorama is a video course sold for a single $97 payment on the vendor’s page (checked 30 September 2026), with a 60-day refund through ClickBank. It has 10 courses, about 275 videos and roughly 14 hours of lessons. It does not listen to you play the way an app does, its song library is smaller, and we found no evidence of regular new lessons. Trustpilot shows a 1.4 TrustScore for jamorama.com, mostly from complaints about account access and support in 2023 to 2025, while older reviews praise the teaching. We have not tested it hands-on. Read what to check before buying first.
Should you pay for Simply Guitar?
Use the free lessons first. If the style works for you and you want the full library, the monthly plan is a low commitment as long as you cancel on time. If you would rather not risk a non-refundable charge, start with free lessons elsewhere.
